Professional and tailored NDIS capacity building and disability rehabilitation services for adult individuals with neurological conditions including Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Huntington’s disease, as well as working with people who have a diagnosis of Intellectual Disability (ID).

As OTs, we know that independence doesn’t come from doing everything on your own. It comes from having the right skills, strategies, and support in place so that daily life feels manageable and meaningful. That’s what capacity building is all about.

What is Capacity Building Support?

Capacity building support helps you learn new skills, rebuild abilities, and feel more confident in everyday life. Under the NDIS, it’s designed to give you the tools you need to live more independently, whether that means cooking a meal, getting to work, or navigating the bigger transitions in life.

Our NDIS Capacity Building Services

As a team of Occupational Therapists, we provide individualised capacity building and rehabilitation services for adult individuals with neurological conditions and intellectual disabilities. We are an experienced team that prefers to work with our clients in their home, workplace or community where they feel comfortable, and where therapy has maximum value.

Some examples of the goals we can help with include:

1

Community access

Learning how to use public transport, get to the shops, or travel to work.
2

Independent living skills

Self-care, meal preparation, managing money, organising routines, and household tasks.
3

Life stage transitions

Moving out of home, preparing to move into SDA, finishing school, starting uni, or getting ready for work.
4

Cognitive skill building

Improving memory, attention, problem-solving, and insight.

How Capacity Building Can Help You

When we focus on building capacity, people often tell us they notice:

  • A greater sense of independence in daily life
  • More confidence in making decisions and managing routines
  • Less stress for families and carers
  • Stronger connections with community, work, and study
  • Progress that feels sustainable, not just short-term

Our NDIS Capacity Building Process

Every person’s goals look different. Our role as OTs is to listen to what matters to you, then break that down into practical steps.

Here’s how we usually work:

  • We meet you where you are, often in your home to understand your story and your goals
  • We look at what’s working well and where the challenges are
  • We might recommend AT equipment, home modifications, or assistive technology that make daily life easier
  • We work directly with you on areas you want to strengthen, while building on what you already do well
  • We involve your family, support workers, or therapy assistants so that strategies are carried through into everyday life
  • And most importantly, we celebrate the progress along the way

Why choose us for your capacity building support?

At Optimal Living Therapy, we’ve spent years supporting people with complex neurological conditions to live more independently. We don’t just look at the task, we look at the whole picture: the person, their environment, and the goals that matter most.

Our team works collaboratively so every client benefits from our shared knowledge and experience. Where it makes sense, we bring in Therapy Assistants or train Support Workers in capacity building strategies so progress isn’t limited to therapy hours

If you’re ready to build skills, confidence, and independence, we’d love to work with you. Get in touch with us today to talk about how capacity building supports can help you achieve your goals.
