At Optimal Living Therapy, we have extensive experience in assessing, designing, and facilitating home modifications to help people live safely and independently in their homes.

Several of our Occupational Therapists meet the NDIS requirements for Complex Home Modifications, ensuring that modifications are functional, future-proofed, and compliant with NDIA criteria.

Our Approach

Complex home modifications involve structural changes to a home, ranging from bathroom and kitchen remodels to large ramps or sometimes even lifts. Our Occupational Therapists don’t just assess immediate needs; they consider long-term safety, mobility, and accessibility, ensuring modifications continue to support individuals well into the future.

We work closely with project managers and builders to ensure that every project is both clinically appropriate and structurally feasible while also meeting NDIS funding requirements.

Home Modification Services

We support a wide variety of complex and minor home modifications including, but not limited to:

  • Bathroom modifications – Full remodels to create accessible bathrooms/wet rooms, removal of shower hobs or bathtubs for level access showers.
  • Kitchen modifications – Layout redesigns, accessible shelving and cabinetry, tailored bench and cupboard heights, and appliance recommendations.
  • Minor modifications – Installation of grab rails, door widening, and changes to tapware, fixtures, and fittings to enhance accessibility.

NDIS Home Modification Process

Optimal Living Therapy provides guidance and support throughout the NDIS process to ensure home modifications align with both individual needs and NDIA criteria. This includes:

  • Assessments to identify barriers in the home environment and explore tailored solutions, including low-cost alternatives where required by NDIS guidelines.
  • Collaboration with project managers and builders to ensure recommended modifications are practical, safe, and compliant.
  • Work alongside builder and/or project managers to generate plans and scope of works provided to ensure they align with the participant’s functional needs.
  • Facilitating the NDIS application process by preparing and submitting Complex Home Modification applications with supporting clinical justification.
  • Post-implementation support, including follow-ups to ensure modifications meet the participant’s needs as intended

At Optimal Living Therapy, we don’t just recommend modifications, we work alongside trusted industry professionals to bring them to life, ensuring they are practical, future-proofed, and aligned with NDIA requirements.
